All Works on Exhibition & Available for Acquisition November 15th – December 10th , 2014.
Phoenix, Arizona (October, 2014) : DeRubeis Fine Art of Metal is honored to present, in its Phoenix exhibition premiere, an extraordinary collection of fine art photography by the incomparable Mick Fleetwood, of the super group Fleetwood Mac, titled Reflections. Mick has stepped out from behind the drums to pursue his other passion of photography, in this unique exhibition of fine art photographs taken over the last few years.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
“As music has thus far defined my career …this Collection of my work titled “Reflections,” defines my thoughts through my art. I am quite proud of this presentation. The Collection is a body of over thirty works, both original photographs as well as hand-enhanced original photographs that are startling in their complexity and in their conception.
Each one of the works housed in this Collection have a distinct and personal story; and one that reflects my life, my roots, my journey and my passions ……who I was and who I am.
The world of nature is something I have always been passionate about and it has been a huge inspiration for my photographs; the camera lens is like a magic window that transports me into a secret world. In that world I observe shapes and details that I might not generally see even though the subjects are right before my eyes. I am fascinated by the intricate structure and design found in nature, and through my photography I hope to unveil this invisible world that sometimes goes unnoticed.”
– Mick Fleetwood
Mick Fleetwood and John McVie founded Fleetwood Mac in 1967 with McVie’s then wife Christine joining in 1970. However, it wasn’t until Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham joined the band on New Year’s Eve in 1974 that they became one of the biggest bands in the world.
In 1975, the new line-up released the eponymous Fleetwood Mac which proved to be a breakthrough for the band and became a huge hit, reaching No.1 in the US and selling over 5 million copies. Among the hit singles from this album were Christine McVie’s “Over My Head” and “Say You Love Me”, and Stevie Nicks’ “Rhiannon” and “Landslide”.
When Fleetwood Mac released Rumours in 1977, it went on to become one of the best-selling albums in music history, selling over 40 million copies worldwide and garnering multiple Grammy awards. The album has recently become the #1 Rock Album on iTunes and in 1998, Fleetwood Mac was inducted into the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame. The band is currently on a sold-out U.S. arena tour with keyboardist/vocalist Christine McVie, who recently rejoined the band over a decade later.
When Fleetwood is not on tour, he spends the majority of his time on Maui where he calls home, tending to his restaurant and working on his photography.
“When I take a photograph, I am primarily trying to capture a feel and moment and I frame the photograph in such a way to convey it. In some, in addition to the mood and composition, I see colors and highlights that I hope the viewer also sees and with my direction, we have some of the photo canvas’s enhanced with paint and texture to feature those.
Along with the applied paint and texture, my “hand stamp” helps to transform the work from being a fine art photograph to being a piece of mixed media art, hard to describe but obvious when seen. It’s something I really enjoy experimenting with – challenging myself, and the viewer with my artwork.
REFLECTIONS:
The fine art photographs contained in this exhibition encompass “Reflections” – in many senses of the word; literally – as in reflections in water, but also figuratively. They encompass reflections on travel, life’s journey and my sense of self- evaluation as well as the reflection of where we’ve come to and where we might be going”.
