Recently, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to speak with one of the greatest American artists of the modern era, Peter Max. He has a show debuting his new collection this weekend at Gallery 725 here in Atlantic Beach, with chances for fans to meet “America’s Favorite Living Artist” on both Saturday and Sunday. Both the show and the appearances (Saturday 6-8PM, Sunday 1-4PM) are open to the public with RSVP, which can easily be made by either calling the gallery at 904.345.9320 or emailing them at firstname.lastname@example.org. To find further information about the show, please enjoy our BUZZ TV interview with the gallery’s owners, Shayna & Matt Winghart, right here. For even more information, please visit Gallery 725’s website at Gallery725.com.
Why do you do what you do?
Peter Max: It’s something I just love. I fell in love with it many years ago and it fills up my life every single day. I’m very lucky to be able to do it.
What inspires you?
PM: My heart. All I have to do is lift up a brush and it’s there. I don’t have to think about it.
Explain the tools and materials you use.
PM: Brushes, paint, canvases, and pens. I do it for hours, I love it.
Why have this gallery showing in Jacksonville?
PM: They just booked it. I have shows all over the country. Traveling a little bit, the gallery shows, are always fantastic.
How did you learn your craft?
PM: I went to art school, learned how to paint, and started to enjoy it a lot. By doing it often, I got very good at it. When you love something it inspires you.
How is your personality reflected in your work?
PM: It’s just there. The images, the colors, the compositions, it’s like my language. My mood, my feeling; over the years it’s cumulative.
What are you working on currently that excites you?
PM: Every day when I come to the studio there’s always a project or 2, music going, and my tools; they inspire me all day. I’m illuminated.
What are your thoughts on being an artist in today’s world?
PM: It’s a great thing. I’m able to draw, paint, compose; arts and music go together. I just love it.
